ANIMAL HIDE CLEANING
-
Here are some tips for cleaning animal hides:
-
Regular maintenance
Brush the hide with a broom in the direction of the hair growth. You can also shake it outside to remove dust and air it out. If you have a patchwork rug, turn it occasionally so it wears evenly.
-
Spot cleaning
For stains or dingy areas, you can try these methods:
-
Water and shampoo: For light-colored hides, apply a small amount of clear shampoo to a damp cloth and wipe in the direction of the hair growth. Rinse with clean water and wipe again to remove any remaining detergent.
-
Vinegar and water: Mix 95% water with 5% white vinegar in a spray bottle, and spray the soiled areas. Wipe with a clean, damp sponge.
-
Vegetable oil: For leather-like hides, apply a few drops of vegetable oil to the stain with your fingers and work it in until the stain fades.

Other tips
Avoid using a high-powered vacuum, and don't soak the hide or put it in the washing machine. After spot cleaning or if the hide has dried out, you can use a Hide Cleaner to restore natural oils to the hair and leather.
